What people get wrong

Each of these costs a candidate either money or a test date.

  • Michigan states it exactly: both the Learning Disabilities test (114) and a Professional Knowledge and Skills test are required for the SM endorsement for initial certification.
  • Learning Disabilities is one of several Michigan special education endorsements. Cognitive Impairment (115), Emotional Impairment (116) and Autism Spectrum Disorder (064) are separate endorsements with their own tests.

Required, but not an exam

  • A bachelor’s degree
  • A Michigan-approved educator preparation program, traditional or alternative
  • Application through the Michigan Online Educator Certification System (MOECS)

Now go pass them.

Knowing the list is the easy part. Built To Pass teaches the strategy layer that works on any of these, aimed at the domains where you are actually losing points.
