What people get wrong

Each of these costs a candidate either money or a test date.

  • Arizona runs two passing scores at once. Arizona custom tests (AEPA codes) pass at 240, NES tests pass at 220, and both sit on the same 100 to 300 scale. Check which family your test belongs to before setting a target, because the same-looking number means different things.
  • Arizona keeps several special education fields on its own custom tests, which pass at 240 rather than 220: Early Childhood (AZ083), Hearing Impaired (AZ026), Severely and Profoundly Disabled (AZ030), Speech and Language Impaired (AZ031) and Visually Impaired (AZ032).
  • You cannot bank subtests across sittings in Arizona. Scores on sections taken at one administration cannot be combined with sections of the same test taken at another to reach a passing total. Within a single sitting, sections can compensate for each other. This is the opposite of states like Michigan and Georgia, where testlets bank, so plan to clear a multi-section test in one go.

Required, but not an exam

  • A bachelor’s degree
  • An approved educator preparation program, or an approved alternative path
  • Fingerprint clearance card and application through ADE

Now go pass them.

Knowing the list is the easy part. Built To Pass teaches the strategy layer that works on any of these, aimed at the domains where you are actually losing points.
