What people get wrong

Each of these costs a candidate either money or a test date.

  • The K-6 Collaborative Teacher route carries the full elementary content testing on top of the special education test.
  • Collaborative Teacher (6-12) does not require the elementary subtests, only 5355 and the 7-12 pedagogy test.
  • Alabama requires a Principles of Learning and Teaching test for every teaching field, matched to the band: K-6 and P-3 take 5622 at 160, 6-12 takes 5624 at 157, and 4-8 and P-12 candidates choose either.

Required, but not an exam

  • A bachelor’s degree
  • An approved educator preparation program, traditional or alternative
  • Alabama background clearance and application through the ALSDE certification system

Now go pass them.

Knowing the list is the easy part. Built To Pass teaches the strategy layer that works on any of these, aimed at the domains where you are actually losing points.
